What is Customer Proprietary Network Information (CPNI)?
Customer Proprietary Network Information or CPNI is a set of Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
rules that regulate how telecommunications companies use information they collect. Its main purpose is to
restrict access to and the use of your telephone services and usage patterns to market other services or
products without your permission. CPNI also helps to protect your call pattern information from unauthorized
access by “pretexters” (Pretexting is the practice of getting your personal information under false pretenses).

What is Proprietary Network Information, exactly?
The FCC Defines your Proprietary Network Information as:
1. The time of each call you make or receive
2. The date of each call you make or receive
3. The duration of each call you make or receive
4. The destination number of each call you make
5. The type of services subscribed to
6. Any other information that appears on your telephone bill including your account balance

How will my interaction with SouthEast Telephone change?
Your interaction with SouthEast Telephone will essentially stay the same. There are however, two significant
changes, first you will only be able to access the account using a PIN and your account will be restricted to
those we have on record as being authorized to access your account. Access to your account by PIN is
required by the FCC CPNI rules and cannot be waived. However, in these times of ever increasing identity
theft and fraud it is important to properly protect your account information.

What if I forget my PIN?
We have prepared several alternative ways for you to access your account in the event you forget your PIN.

1. Set up a security question and answer
2. Ask for specific information on your bill
3. Call you back at your account telephone number (We cannot call work, cell or other numbers, only the account telephone number)

Besides me, who else can access my account?
Access to your account is restricted to you, the account holder, and anyone that you have added as a(n)
Authorized User, Secondary Account Holder, or Power of Attorney. Remember that even though you have
added someone to the account at one of the previous mentioned security levels, they will still need to provide
the PIN if/when they call in.

What is an Authorized User able to do?
If you add someone as an Authorized User, they are not financially responsible for the account but can receive
any information about the account. An Authorized User can not make any changes to the account.

What is a Secondary Account Holder able to do?
If you add somone as a Secondary Account Holder, they are not financially responsible for the account, but
they do have full rights and privileges to the account (can make any changes, inquiries, etc.,) with the
exception of cancelling/disconnecting the service.

What is a Power of Attorney able to do?
A Power of Attorney (PoA) is not financially responsible for the account, but has full rights and privileges with
regards to the account. Unlike a Secondary Account Holder, a PoA can delete the services.

I take care of the bills for my parent/child, can I still get access to the account?
Yes, if you know the PIN you will have access to the account to the point that your access level (Secondary
Account Holder, Authorized User, Power of Attorney) allows.

The telephone is in my spouses name, can I still get access?
Yes, if you know the PIN you will have access to the account to the point that your access level (Secondary
Account Holder, Authorized User, Power of Attorney) allows.
