DSL Deployment Slated for Phelps

Phelps, KY - Local Telecommunications Provider, SouthEast Telephone will be deploying Highspeed Internet services (DSL) throughout the Phelps, KY area.

The fundamental mission of SouthEast Telephone is to provide rural Kentuckians with high quality, affordable everyday communications services that exceed their expectations.

Through a recent RUS grant awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture for Rural Development, SouthEast Telephone will expand on its mission to serve the citizens of rural Kentucky with low cost, highspeed internet.

This advancement should benefit the area in a positive way. "It is our hope in providing Highspeed Internet to the Phelps community that DSL will become a vital economic tool. At the same time we hope it will enhance the quality of health care by utilizing tele-medicine and in addition should benefit education through distance learning," said Darrell Maynard, President of SouthEast Telephone. 

The task of providing rural, low income and under-served areas with advanced services is particularly challenging.  These communities require cost effective technology in order to enjoy the educational and economic benefits that highspeed Internet access can deliver.  Without DSL, the gap between urban and rural communities would grow even wider.

Through unique engineering, the majority of Phelps citizens should be served.  This technology will enhance the communities ability to have equal access to highspeed Internet.

In agreement with the grant, SouthEast Telephone will provide many key community organizations with free DSL service.  In addition, free Internet workshops will be available for area citizens to attend.
