GOVERNMENT TAXES AND FEES
Federal, state and local governments require phone companies to collect a variety of fees and taxes. SouthEast Telephone collects these and distributes the funds to the appropriate agencies. The following list includes the common taxes and surcharges on telephone service assessed by various government entities. Taxes and fees will range from $8.00 - $25.00 depending upon where you live. Some counties or townships charge much higher taxes than other areas.
Federal Excise Tax
(Also known as Federal Tax, FCC Tax)
Fixed rate of 3% charged by all carriers on the Local, Long Distance and Wireless monthly revenue. It is mandated by the Federal Government and charged by all telecommunications providers.
Telecom Relay Service Charge
(Also known as Telephone Relay Charge)
The State Telecom Relay Service Tax is a surcharge to fund the relay center that assists the hearing and speech impaired to communicate between telephone providers.
State / County 911 Tax
(Also known as 911 Service Fee)
This is a fee that compensates local public agencies for the costs of establishing, upgrading and operating the emergency telephone system. This fee is charged by all providers - including Wireless.
Utility Users Tax
(Also known as State Additional Charges, Interstate Tax Surcharge, State Maintenance Fee, Municipal Utility Tax, State and Local Tax, State and Local Municipal Tax)
The Utility Users Tax is tax on local, long distance and wireless total monthly revenue. These taxes vary greatly depending upon your location, but are the same across all telecom providers. Proceeds from this tax go to state and local governments.
USF Line Charge
(Also known as Universal Fund Surcharge, Federal Universal Fund, USF Surcharge)
This is a fee established by the Federal Government to provide telecommunications relief to schools, libraries and rural health care facilities. This is a flat fee that varies between wireless and wireline providers.

 

OTHER TAXES AND FEES
End User Common Line Charge
(Also known as SLC per Line Fee, National Access Fee, LD Line Charge, FCC Primary Carrier 1st Line, Carrier Line Charge)
The charge applies, per line, to SouthEast Telephone residential and business customers to enable line access to and from cellular, local and all other carriers interconnecting with SouthEast Telephone.
Number Portability Charge
(Also known as LNP charge)
To promote competition for local services, SouthEast Telephone has upgraded its service platform to permit customers to take (i.e. port) their telephone number among cellular and wireline carriers
Carrier Cost Recovery Charge This charge applies, per account, to SouthEast Telephone business and residential long distance customer to recover the costs associated with providing state-to-state and international long distance service, including expenses for national regulatory fees and programs, connection and account servicing charges, and expenses for regulatory compliance.
Data Service Recovery Charge This charge applies, per line, to SouthEast Telephone DSL customers to enable Internet access to and from nationwide and international nationwide and international Internet Service Providers.
End User Access Fee This charge applies, per line, to SouthEast Telephone business and residential customers to enable network access to and from nationwide and international long distance services from all carriers.
